Latest from pre-season for Bideford AFC and Barnstaple Town
Penalties were the leading theme for Bideford AFC in their 1-0 defeat at Bridgwater United in the latest pre-season friendly for the Robins.
After a goalless first period, Bridgwater, who compete in the Western League, were awarded a penalty but then thwarted by a superb save from Charlie Searle. He then repeated the heroics with another stunning block from a long-range effort.
Unfortunately, the good fortune ran out for Searle five minutes from time, when Bridgwater were awarded a second penalty, and this time converted from the spot.
Former Bideford goalkeeper Adam Seedhouse-Evans enjoyed an impressive debut for his new club, Buckland Athletic, as he kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Torquay United in South Devon.
Barnstaple Town cruised to a 4-1 friendly win over South-West Peninsula League outfit Callington Town on Saturday. Bideford host Barum in a friendly this weekend.
