Barnstaple has a new addition to its café scene, thanks to two enterprising local women.
Jessie Coombs and Annie Poole have officially opened Spill the Beans, a retro-style café on Tuly Street that promises hearty, home-cooked food and a warm, community-focused atmosphere.
With the help of an “army” of family and friends, the pair managed to transform the space and launch the café in just one week. The venture is very much a family affair— mum, Jayne, is behind the baking, using a cherished recipe book that has been passed down through two generations.
The café offers good, honest food made from locally sourced ingredients and served in generous portions.
A highlight of the menu is their hearty home-cooked breakfast, featuring their extra-special bubble and squeak and sausages from a local butcher—already winning praise from early customers.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, Spill the Beans serves breakfast, light lunches, coffee, cake, smoothies, shakes, and its already-popular signature loaded waffles.
More than just a place to eat, Jessie and Annie are keen for Spill the Beans to become a true community hub.
They would love to provide a welcoming space for local groups to get together—whether it’s breakfast meetings, coffee mornings, or a good old-fashioned knit and natter!
To mark the launch, an official Open Day will be held on Saturday 2nd August, featuring special offers, discounts, and fun activities for children—making it a perfect day out for the whole family.
Whether you’re a regular in town or just passing through, be sure to stop by and support a truly local venture built on passion, heritage, and community spirit.
