A main road between Bideford and Torrington has been closed ‘until further notice’ this afternoon (Friday, January 9) due to a landslip following Storm Goretti.

Devon County Council Highways said at 3.40pm the road would be closed until stability checks could be carried out on the area after the ‘significant’ landslip.

Just after midnight today it was reported the road had been closed at the junction to Beam House due to a fallen tree entangled in power cables.

Police were called after 11pm last night to reports a single vehicle had collided with a tree and electrical pole. No one was injured.

It is not entirely clear but the incidents all appear to be in roughly the same location according to social media posts by Devon Alert, the traffic information page operated by DCC Highways.

Diversions are in place, with the road open between Bideford and Landcross before the official diversion takes drivers through Frithelstock to Torrington.
