Pictures - First look at new Søstrene Grene store in Barnstaple

Barnstaple’s new store Søstrene Grene store opens tomorrow (Friday) morning and ahead of the public opening we’ve been invited to bring you a sneak preview.

With staff busy putting the finishing touches to the popular Danish lifestyle and homeware brand ahead of the big opening at exactly 9.59am tomorrow, the North Devon Gazette was invited for a first look around.

To mark the occasion, the first 100 customers in the queue for the new store in Green Lanes Shopping Centre will receive a voucher for one of the brand’s woollen throws.

Visitors can also enjoy complimentary tote bags filled with selected Søstrene Grene products, alongside live classical music.

Founded in Denmark and now with more than 400 stores internationally, Søstrene Grene offers a Scandinavian-inspired range of homewares, kitchen essentials, craft supplies, toys, every day essentials and seasonal décor, with the signature Søstrene Grene winding layout, complemented by soft lighting and classical music.

It is the brand’s first store in North Devon, with the next nearest in Exeter and the Barnstaple store is providing 15 local jobs.

Helpful staff kindly guided us around this afternoon and explained how the store is actually divided into different sections, beginning with ‘the spot’ where current new lines and offers are placed, moving on to interior decorations, home interior fixtures and furnishings to suit every taste from show home styles to cute romance and warm colours.

Other areas are dedicated to kitchen ware and utensils, crafts, hobbies, candles, many many candles… plus yarn, crocheting, jewellery making and water colour or acrylic paints plus accessories for artists of all ages.

There are school and office supplies, a huge selection of loose teas, winter woollies, children’s costumes, baby supplies, travel supplies, storage jars - plus everything in fact you might wish to decorate your house and home as well as essential and luxury household items.

Of course, the current theme is all about Christmas and there are some very different Scandinavian-style decorations to help your home stand out, but Søstrene Grene sells a huge range of every day and luxury items to suit all year around.

Not to mention gift wrapping supplies, kitchen spices and seasonings, Christmas sweet goodies, toys and many different types of sweets from old favourites to liquorish, candy canes, rock and boiled sweets.
