National award for North Devon market manager who is making a difference

Adam Nichols, the manager of South Molton Pannier Market, has been recognised in the Dimensions Leaders’ Awards
The manager of South Molton whose work has helped bring thousands of people into the town has won a national award celebrating community leadership.
Adam Nichols, who is autistic, was a winner in the Local Communities category at the Dimensions Leaders’ Awards.
The awards, organised by Dimensions, the UK’s largest not-for-profit support provider for adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, celebrate those who are making a positive difference in society.
Adam received his award at The Leaders’ Awards ceremony in Bristol on Tuesday, October 20.
Under his leadership as market and events manager, South Molton Pannier Market has strengthened its role as both a commercial hub and a welcoming place where local people, traders, charities and community groups can come together.

Earlier this year, the market was named Britain’s Favourite Market at the Great British Market Awards, for the fourth consecutive year.
Adam said he was incredibly honoured to receive this award. He said: “Everything I do is driven by a passion for South Molton and a belief that markets and community events can bring people together, support local businesses, and create opportunities for everyone.
“This recognition means a great deal to me, particularly as someone who is autistic and understands the importance of creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where people feel they belong.
“While my name is on the award, it reflects the support of our traders, volunteers, community groups, South Molton Town Council and the many people who help make our town such a special place.
“I’m proud to play a small part in South Molton’s success and look forward to continuing to build on everything we’ve achieved together.”

Adam has helped lead major town events, including food festivals, fireworks, Christmas celebrations, seasonal markets and community gatherings.
He has also supported accessibility through free charity pitches, helping local causes take part in market life without facing a financial barrier.
In April, South Molton Pannier Market opened a new outdoor market space at Drovers Yard, between the market and Central Car Park.
It launched with 12 new traders and now runs alongside the indoor market on Thursdays and Saturdays. Adam and Joshua Thomas played a leading role in getting the area ready to open, with support from South Molton Town Council.
Adam has also been recognised for encouraging young traders and new local businesses.
