Pupils at Dunsford Community Academy, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, were left buzzing with ideas this term after a visit from acclaimed storyteller and children’s author Clive PiG.
During his high-energy performance, Clive combined songs, stories, and poems to inspire students to write and perform their own work.
Known for his theatrical and interactive style, he has performed worldwide, including singing on television in New York City, sharing stories at the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, and delivering poetry at Number 10 Downing Street.
His illustrated books of original tales, traditional stories, and comic poems reflect the same music, rhythm, and rhyme that captivated the Dunsford pupils.
The visit forms part of Dunsford Community Academy’s wider commitment to nurturing a love of language.

Its English curriculum aims to build confidence in both oral and written communication while encouraging enjoyment in reading. Every classroom offers a book-rich environment for children to access independently.
Headteacher Liam O’Sullivan said:“Clive was absolutely fantastic. He really lives the story and that energy and enthusiasm is quickly transferred to the children.”
“They went away with their imaginations firing, ready and excited to create their own stories.”
The event comes amid concerns about declining reading habits among children in the UK. A recent survey by the National Literacy Trust found that the number of children who enjoy reading has fallen to its lowest level in 20 years.
In response, MPs on the cross-party Education Committee have launched an inquiry into the causes of this decline, seeking evidence from schools, libraries, early years settings, and families, as well as suggestions for government action to revive a love of reading.
Events like Clive PiG’s visit at Dunsford Community Academy show how creative, hands-on experiences can ignite imagination and encourage children to embrace books and storytelling.
