The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice covering the whole of Devon, starting at 5pm today, Friday 13 February, and lasting until 10am tomorrow (UTC).

The warning means that icy surfaces are likely to make travel difficult across the county. The Met Office advises that some injuries from slips and falls are possible, particularly on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.

Temperatures are expected to drop to around 0°C during the early morning, especially at 7am and 8am tomorrow, before rising later in the day.

While the warning’s impact is considered low, the likelihood of icy conditions is medium, meaning residents should remain cautious.

Motorists are advised to take extra care on the roads, reduce speed where necessary, and allow additional time for journeys. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear suitable footwear and take care on pavements and steps, which may become slippery.

The Met Office warns that even a small patch of ice can lead to accidents, and urges everyone to remain alert during the cold spell.

It comes as temperatures hover around the freezing point, with 0°C being the threshold at which water freezes. Residents are reminded that ice can form even when roads appear clear, particularly in shaded areas or overnight.
