Choirs raise their voices and funds for North Devon bereavement charity

The cheque of £1,600 for Families in Grief is presented to Suzi Marsh of FiG by Tony Blake and Emelia McNeil from Barnstaple Male Voice Choir.

A joint concert between Barnstaple Male Voice Choir and the Carry On Choir has raised £1,600 for local bereavement charity Families in Grief.

The proceeds from the December concert has been presented to FiG by BMVC musical director Emelia McNeil and chairman  Tony Blake.

FiG supports bereaved children, young people and their families across North Devon and Torridge, helping them to understand and move forward with their grief.

Suzi Marsh, fundraising and communications officer at FiG, said “We are grateful to have been chosen by Barnstaple Male Voice Choir.

“We had a great evening with both choirs and the monies raised will support our work in the local community.

“Last year we supported more than 200 local children and we hope to do even more this year as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. This donation will help us ensure that no family has to face grief alone.”

Barnstaple Male Voice Choir is next performing on Saturday, March 21 with Barnstaple Concert Band in support of the Mayor’s charities - Man Down and Barum Boxing Club at Christ Church in Bear Street, Barnstaple, with doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Anyone who would like to join the choir to benefit from the joy of singing together and making new friends is welcome to go along to practice evenings at St Paul’s Church, Sticklepath on Mondays at 7.30pm find out more via the website.
