Volunteers who would like to give back to nature, do something useful in their local area and learn new skills are invited to spend some time on Northam Burrows this winter.

The burrows ranger team is asking people to join them for a series of practical conservation tasks from January to March to help care for local nature reserves and green spaces, while meeting new people and learning new things.

From wildflower meadow management to beach cleans and dune fencing, the hands-on projects are a good way to get active, support vital work and connect with like-minded people.

See the full programme of activities below, but examples include harvest mouse survey training at Northam Burrows on Monday, January 26; various wildflower meadow management sessions including January 28 and February 25, plus beach cleans at Westward Ho! on January 31, February 28 and March 21.

Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin at Torridge District Council said: “These volunteering events are a fantastic way to care for our beautiful country park and green spaces.

“They offer opportunities to learn practical skills, enjoy the outdoors and build connections with like-minded members of the community.

“Whether you’re planting wildflowers, cleaning beaches or helping with dune fencing, you’ll be part of a collective effort that strengthens local pride and creates a greener Torridge for everyone. I encourage everyone to get involved and make a real difference to our local environment!”

All events are free and all equipment is provided, but pre-booking is essential. No experience is necessary and all are welcome.

Please email northam.burrows@torridge.gov.uk to sign up or find out more, or call 01237 479708.
