A successful project that gets young people out and about on the coast and in the countryside for a variety of activities has been joined by an adult version.
Explorers Club has been launched by the Earth Action North Devon charity to give adults the same experiences already enjoyed by students from local schools through its popular Ocean Explorers Academy programme.
Thanks to funding from Sport England it will give 40 local adults the chance to get outside, connect with nature, and learn more about the environment on their doorstep.

Those taking part will get to explore woodlands and rock pools, walk the coast path and join National Trust rangers for hands-on conservation, carry out beach cleans and learn more about taking action locally to have a global impact.

There will also be various fun activities such as cycling on the Tarka Trail or venturing out on a team paddleboard.
Earth Action North Devon (EAND) was previously known as Plastic Free North Devon and has run several successful Ocean Explorer Academy programmes for young people, while the adults in their lives looked on enviously.
Libby Bowles, education co-ordinator at EAND, said: Families of our Ocean Explorers have been asking for years if they could join in, so it’s exciting to be offering an expanded programme to adults.
“We’ve seen incredible results with our Ocean Explorer programme for young people and we know adults in our community are just as keen to reconnect with nature, improve their wellbeing, and play a role in protecting our planet.
“Thanks to Sport England funding, we’re thrilled to be able to launch this new programme and we can’t wait to welcome our first group this autumn.”
