Care for Kids North Devon has set up an art board in the Caroline Thorpe Children’s Ward at the North Devon District Hospital.

The Barnstaple-based charity supports North Devon families with seriously ill children and helps improve the local children’s ward.

This project helps to make hospital stays less scary for children and their families.

The board will display art created by children who have been admitted to the ward.

Staff working on the ward are very grateful for this project.

Fran Greenaway, Play Specialist on the Caroline Thorpe Ward and a trustee for the charity commented: “Initially, we just wanted a nice way to display the children's art in the playroom. Now that the board is in place, it's becoming clear that it's actually encouraging the children to create more artwork. I think it's going to enhance their creativity. They want to show everyone what they have done, which is really nice."

Ward manager, Gemma Hayes, says: “The new art board looks great. Amongst the art on display are pictures drawn for the nurses who have cared for them or their siblings, along with messages of thanks. It's really lovely and brightens up that corner of the playroom. Thank you to everyone who supports Care for Kids and the work they do here on the ward."

Projects such as this art board are made possible thanks to monetary donations from the public.

The charity is very appreciative of these donations that directly support all their projects.

All their projects aim to make hospital stays for children and their families more comfortable.
