A coffee morning held at the Assembly Rooms in South Molton raised £700 for the international development agency Christian Aid.

The event featured a performance by the Young Voices Choir from South Molton C of E United Primary School, which added a musical highlight to the fundraiser.

Organiser Lynne Miller said: “The response was amazing, and I think we had a record turnout!

“The Young Voices Choir of South Molton C of E United Primary School performed beautifully, singing melodiously and with great enthusiasm. They must have put in hours of practice under the expert and skilled encouragement of Mrs Helen Jarvis. Their performance was the highlight of a successful morning.”

Dr Frances Clemson from Christian Aid delivered a presentation on the organisation’s efforts to assist vulnerable communities impacted by war in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan. “This focussed our minds on the urgent need for fundraising,” Ms Miller said.

The coffee morning was organised by the South Molton and District Christian Aid fundraising team, with attendees contributing to the total raised.

According to Christian Aid, the funds will go towards supporting communities through initiatives including savings and loans associations, farming co-operatives, healthcare schemes, and disaster risk training.

In 2023, the organisation reportedly assisted 3.3 million people through 275 programmes.
