A fish and chip shop in Torrington commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day with special offers and community activities.

Taffs Fish & Chips aimed to honour those who served and remember the significance of the historic event on June 6.

The shop said: “It's important to us that we remember all those that fought so we could be where we are today as a country.”

Taffs Fish & Chips partnered with Phill, a representative from T Quality, to provide special treats and discounts to the local community.

For this occasion, they offered every person in local care homes a free dessert and curry sauce, along with a 10 percent discount on fish and chips.

This gesture was extended to all blue light card holders, anyone in any service, and anyone over the age of 65 as a way of saying thank you.

They even made lunchtime deliveries to care homes, serving over 150 portions of fish and chips.

The shop said: “We were blown away with the response we received. We delivered to three care homes and the local fire station. The best part was making people smile.”

Taffs Fish & Chips also offered a 10 percent discount to all their customers to mark the special occasion.

The shop was decorated with wartime music playing and special chip wraps featuring headlines from newspapers 80 years ago.

The shop said: “We are firm believers that it's important to be part of the community. It's nice to give, and it's just nice to be nice and make people smile.”

Looking forward to future events, Taffs Fish & Chips is already thinking of new ways to give back.

Their last big event was Mayfair, where they gave away 150 cones of chips to all the school children dancing.

They have also planted 150 trees to give back to Mother Nature.

The shop is managed by Charlie Potts, their reps are Chloe, and Phill.

Claudette is the owner of Taffs and Duane was the delivery boy for the day.
