Vaccination appointments for COVID-19 boosters are now available across Devon, targeting those at higher risk from the virus.

The Royal Devon University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is leading the initiative, urging eligible individuals to book in.

COVID-19 is more serious in older people and people with certain underlying health conditions.

For these reasons, those eligible are:

  • People aged 75 years and over
  • Those in care homes
  • Those aged six months and over with a weakened immune system

Leigh Mansfield, Associate Director of Operations who is leading the vaccination programme for the Royal Devon, said: “I would urge anyone who is eligible but has yet to book an appointment to not delay, and get protected against the virus as soon as possible.

“We are running clinics at sites across the region, so it’s easy and convenient to book at a time and place to suit you. Walk-in vaccinations are also available at all sites.

“COVID-19 can still be very dangerous to older people and those who have weakened immune systems, and this dose will top-up previous protection, reducing the risk of serious illness.”

Eligible individuals can expect to receive invitations for their booster shots, either through their GP or via the NHS app for both Apple and Android devices.

Additionally, walk-in appointments can be located through the NHS website, offering flexibility for those preferring this option.

The national booking system is facilitating appointments for public clinics until Sunday, 30 June.
