The riverside Taw Wharf development has 13 plots left to sell following an eight-year construction project that included new affordable homes

After eight years the final brick has been laid at a 172-home riverside development in Barnstaple.

All brickwork has now been completed for the housing on Anchorwood Bank, which includes 37 homes classed as affordable and has been a partnership between Pearce Construction and Anchorwood Ltd.

The final affordable properties on the site were hand over to North Devon Homes back in May.

Most of the rest have been sold, with just 13 plots remaining for reservation, with a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, along with two and three-bedroom houses.

Since work began on the former Leaderflush Shapland site, a total of 730,000 bricks have been laid, according to contractors.

Paul Knox, managing director of Pearce Construction, said: “Laying the final brick at Taw Wharf is a fantastic milestone for Pearce Construction and everyone involved in the project. It represents a huge amount of hard work, commitment and collaboration from our team, our select supply chain and our project partners.

“Taw Wharf has been a significant development for us and it is particularly rewarding to see the outcome of our work helping to regenerate this important part of Barnstaple and deliver much-needed new homes for the local community, creating a great place to live.

“We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the project so far. While there is still work to do before we reach project completion in spring 2027, today is a proud moment for all involved, and the scheme is reflective of the awards we have won along the way since its commencement in spring 2018.”

Tim Hamilton-Miller, group development director at North Devon Homes, added: “After eight years on site, with homes being delivered through some challenging market conditions, the laying of the final brick is a very significant moment for all parties concerned.

“The community that has developed over this time, which includes 37 affordable homes, is a testament to everyone involved.”
