North Devon Hospice’s Community Fundraiser, Erin, explains how you can help make this year’s Mission: Unbreakable the best yet by volunteering your time at this iconic fundraising event.

When it comes to fundraising challenges, there’s no doubt that Mission: Unbreakable is one of the toughest North Devon Hospice has to offer.

As well as scaling hills, marshes, and moorland as part of the rugged 10k course, our hardy participants must also tackle over 30 obstacles designed with 2 4 Commando Royal Engineer Regiment along the way.

From the underwater tunnel of the infamous Sheep Dip to the dancing flames of the Inferno, those brave enough to take part will certainly be put through their paces. But the endless fun to be had along the way makes it all worthwhile, as does the pride you’ll feel to be supporting patients and families facing a life-limiting illness like cancer.

While Mission: Unbreakable really is an event for everyone, we understand that not everyone will want to take part. But if being a participant isn’t for you, there are other ways you can help to make this iconic event a fantastic experience, one of which is by giving your time on the day to help things run smoothly. If you’ve never been part of Mission: Unbreakable before or are new to volunteering, you might be wondering what sort of things this will involve. Well, let me tell you…

For just a few hours or even the day, you will be giving your time to help make this year’s Mission: Unbreakable the best yet! For some volunteers, this might mean helping to register participants at the start of the day to ensure everyone is where they need to be to begin their challenge. For others, it could be manning an obstacle somewhere along the 10k course or encouraging teams to keep going during long stints of running.

Another important role will be cheering people over the finish line before handing out our coveted Mission: Unbreakable medals – a real honour for our participants to receive! Whatever job you’re doing, you’ll be thoroughly supported by hospice staff, and we promise there’ll be plenty of smiles and laughter. Together, we’ll make the day a real success and do everything we can to champion local hospice care and the difference it makes to people in our community facing their toughest times.

If you feel you could be part of this fantastic event and would like to give something back to your local hospice by volunteering your time at Mission: Unbreakable, please visit northdevonhospice.org.uk for more information.
