The second phase of refurbishment works to improve public toilets in Totnes has now been completed, with further upgrades still underway across the South Devon town.

South Hams District Council recently confirmed that refurbishment work at the public toilets at Steamer Quay has now finished.

The facilities are the second set of public conveniences in Totnes to be upgraded this year, following improvements to the Coronation Road toilets completed in January.

Work has now begun on refurbishing the toilets beneath the Civic Hall, with the project expected to be completed by the end of March.

The works form part of a wider programme of investment by South Hams District Council to improve public facilities across the district.

Councillor Julian Brazil, the council’s executive member for community services, operations and leisure, said he was pleased to see the improvement project continuing.

“I’m glad to see that our project to modernise some of our facilities is continuing at pace,” he said.

“The refurbishments are part of our wider project to modernise some of our local assets in communities across the district.

“You may see freshened up toilets, benches and other assets of ours in the coming months – these are part of our commitment to support our communities in every way we can.”

The refurbishment programme began late last year, with the Coronation Road toilets the first to be upgraded, the toilets at Steamer Quay followed, and now the Civic Hall toilets represent the final stage of the current improvements in Totnes.

During earlier phases of the project, accessible toilet facilities remained open where possible while refurbishment works were carried out.

South Hams District Council says the improvements are part of a broader effort to modernise public amenities and support residents and visitors using facilities across the South Hams.
