Several primary schools across and near Dartmoor will be closed or opening later than normal tomorrow, Tuesday 6 January, due to icy conditions and building issues.

Ashwater Primary School, near Beaworthy, will be closed for the day because of a heating fault. Devon County Council confirmed that emergency engineers have been contacted, but the school cannot be safely heated. The school will therefore remain closed on 6 January.

Princetown Community Primary School will partially close, with a delayed opening time of 10.30am. A notice posted on 5 January said the later start is “to allow staff and children to arrive at school safely in icy conditions.”

Tavistock Primary and Nursery School will also open at 10.30am. Devon County Council said the delayed opening is “due to icy conditions.”

Halwill Community Primary School is similarly affected and is aiming to open at 10.30am on Tuesday. The school said the decision was taken because of weather conditions.

Meavy Church Of England Primary School is also aiming to open at 10am “due to the snow and ice weather forecast”.

Parents and carers are being advised to check directly with schools or at the Devon County Council website here for the latest updates, as further changes may be announced.
