Pictures: The village of Braunton welcomes extra guests on Remembrance Sunday

With Braunton having its own military base in RMB Chivenor, it is not surprising the armed forces were heavily represented on Remembrance Sunday 2025

With Braunton being a ‘garrison village’ since the Second World War, it isn’t surprising the community was joined on Remembrance Sunday by troops from nearby RMB Chivenor.

Families of many of those posted at the base, which is home to 3 Commando Logistic Regiment as well as 24 Commando Royal Engineers, live in the village too.

Before the Royal Marines arrived at Chivenor, it was known as RAF Chivenor and planes have flown there since the Second World War, when it was home to Bristol Beaufighters, Blenheims and Beauforts as part of Coastal Command, often used to seek out and destroy German U-boats.

Troops from the current RMB Chivenor joined representatives Braunton Royal British Legion and the village’s uniformed services, as well as local youth groups, for the traditional Remembrance Parade.

This formed up on Caen Street and made its way through the village to St Brannock’s Church for the Act of Remembrance and Remembrance Sunday service.
