Pictures: Lest we forget - Bideford and Appledore remember the fallen

Remembrance Sunday 2025 in Bideford and Appledore to honour the fallen

Remembrance Sunday events in Bideford and Appledore always form a staunch pillar of the efforts to commemorate war dead in Torridge and this year proved to be no exception.

Bideford Town Council began proceedings with its traditional Remembrance parade to the war memorial at Victoria Park, joined by the town’s veterans, uniformed services, youth groups and Bideford Town Band as well as Bideford Youth Pipe Band.

There followed the Act of Remembrance, two minute’s silence and laying of wreaths before a short service at St Mary’s Church.

On Armistice Day itself, Tuesday, November 11, Bideford Mayor Peter Lawrence will lay a wreath at the memorial beside St Mary’s and observe the nationwide two minute silence.

At the same time, the deputy mayor will place a wreath at the Victoria Park memorial, with a lone piper present to play the Last Post. A wreath will also be laid at Bideford’s Chudleigh Fort.

Bideford photographer Graham Hobbs captured these pictures for us and then also attended the afternoon Remembrance Service at Appledore, which has always maintained a strong link to the armed forces due to its proud naval tradition.

The afternoon Act of Remembrance was observed at the village war memorial followed by a service at St Mary’s Church.
