The Coaching Inn at South Molton has reopened its doors today (Friday, October 10) following a major £700,000 refurbishment.

The North Devon Gazette popped in for a quick look a few hours before the teatime opening and we think patrons old and new will like what they see.

New owners The Valiant Pub Group have spent £700,000 to fully refurbish the large bar, restaurant area and the 11 guest bedrooms, plus there is a brand new sports bar with big screens in what was the old function room.

With food served throughout the day from 9am to 8.30pm, the restaurant will offer hearty pub classics, alongside new experiences such as bottomless brunch, afternoon tea and a rolling calendar of seasonal specials.

Meanwhile the sports bar has its very own menu which will include burgers, wings, tenders and nachos.

Speaking on Friday afternoon, new Coaching Inn operator Jane Graham said all the staff were excited for the evening opening and welcoming the town back inside one of its longest established pubs.

She said: “Everybody's missed the place and we can't wait for them to come back.

“We've got the new sports bar - they're going love that with all the equipment in there and they're going to see a huge difference when they walk through the door.

“The people around here have already stated that they are so looking forward to coming back and they can't wait to have somewhere to go all week for food or just for drinks.”

Valiant has more plans for the pub and phase two of the refurbishment plan will see the revamp move to the garden, which the new owners says promises ‘a fantastic outdoor space for eating, drinking and socialising’.

Luke Carroll, operations director (south), said: “We are absolutely delighted to bring the Coaching Inn back to life.

“This has been a true labour of love, restoring the pub and restaurant to its former glory, creating stylish new bedrooms and launching a food and drink offer that now includes bottomless brunch, afternoon tea, seasonal specials, and local cask ales.

“With phase two bringing an exciting garden refurbishment, we believe we have created something really special for South Molton.

“The Coaching Inn has always been at the heart of this community, and this transformation ensures it will remain so for many years to come.”
