The first half of the League One season has not gone entirely a planned for Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle, which could mean a proper Devon-flavoured relegation scrap in 2026.
The two rivals enter 2026 either side of the bottom four, Argyle behind City on goal difference, and the race to stay up could not be closer. The Devon duo sit on 26 points but that is just three points behind Wycombe Wanderers, who are ninth!
The Grecian ended 2025 with an excellent 1-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon, Jayden Wareham rising highest to head home an Ilmari Niskanen cross on 37 minutes. City then fought valiantly to protect their lead, surviving an almighty scramble midway through the second period to secure all three points.
Argyle, meanwhile, completed a turbulent year with a last-minute leveller from Bim Pepple to earn a 1-1 draw with Wycombe at Home Park.
Both teams are back in action on New Year's Day, Exeter at home to Luton Town and Argyle travelling to Stevenage, and the next few months are going to be full of tension and drama along the Devon Expressway.
