Holsworthy Golf Club captains
Holsworthy Golf Club successfully changed hands at the end of the summer, with new Owner, Craig Derby taking control and already making some great, positive changes to the club and course.
Craig has big plans for Holsworthy Golf Club, including the installation of a professional swing studio, and an additional open house simulator for use by all members and guests. In addition, the kitchen, restaurant and changing rooms are all undergoing renovation, with a new meeting room being created, for use by local businesses and clubs.
The timing is excellent as the new captains took up their roles this weekend and were welcomed on Sunday with the annual Captains Drive in. The event was a spectacular success with just under 70 members taking part, raising money for the captain’s charities, being, The Eve Appeal, which is a cancer charity focussed on research around the five key female cancers.
And the second Charity being Holsworthy Youth Centre, who provide help, support and activities to local youngsters. Over £400 was raised on the day, which is an excellent start to the fund raising for the year.
The new captains are Les Harding (Seniors Captain), Jackie Foster (Ladies Captain), and Mark Brumham (Mens Captain).
The weather was particularly kind to the new team at the top, with clear skies and calm winds, providing excellent golfing conditions. The greenkeepers worked hard to get the course into superb playing condition, which was a real challenge, especially given the amount of inclement weather we have been having recently!
The final results were very close, with the winning team, comprising Laurence Smart, John Bewes and Paula West, flanked by the new captains.
Preparations will now take place for the 2026 competitions, and the club is looking forward to updating everyone on all the positive changes happening to the Club and Course over the coming months and years.
And Finally, to cap off a successful 2025, Holsworthy Golf Club won Division 2 of the North Devon League, gaining promotion to League 1 for 2026. The team presented with the NDL trophy included Leo McDonnell, Lloyd Fursdon, Pete Issac (captain), Jeremy Horwood and Mark Brumham.
Holsworthy also won the High Handicap North Devon League plate, congratulations to Alistair Oechen, Steve Keyworth (captain) Jonathan Curtis, Kevin Bowditch, David West and Dave Wildern.
