Billy Stanbury boxing to victory
Bideford boxer Billy Stanbury moved to thirteen fights undefeated in Swindon with a dominant points win against Dzmitry Atkhou from Belarus.
Stanbury won every round against a durable opponent, Atkhou was hurt on several occasions but used his experience to hear the final bell.
Stanbury is currently one of the hottest Super Welterweight prospects in the UK and continues to show improvements in the ring, getting people talking in the boxing world.
“Fight 13 in the books, and what a journey it’s been so far,” said Stanbury. “80 fights now in total across my amateur and pro career, 80 times stepping through the ropes, learning, growing, and pushing myself to new levels.
“I want to take a moment to thank every single person who came out to support, everyone who bought tickets, everyone who’s backed me since day one or joined along the way. Whether you travelled, shouted from the crowd or messaged me, it means more than I can explain. Having real support behind me keeps me driving forward. Thank you.
“A big thank you as well to my team, the people who train me, push me, guide me and put the hours in behind the scenes. None of this happens without the work we put in together. Couldn’t ask for a better group around me than Richard Grigg, Dick Kersey, Danny Passmore and Kieran Hanshaw.
“Now it’s straight back to work. I’m hoping for a Southern Area title defence early next year or a shot at the English title and I’m preparing with everything I’ve got. This is what all the early mornings, late nights and tough sessions are for.
“Thank you to Neilson Boxing for the opportunity and my management team, Goodwin Boxing, for all the work behind scenes guiding my career. And finally, a huge thank you to all my sponsors. I genuinely couldn’t do this without you; your support keeps me going and helps me achieve what I have.”
Trainer Richard Grigg added: “Job done for Billy Stanbury, winning every round against a very experienced and durable opponent. These rounds in the ring are invaluable and the gains made throughout training camp all lead to the end goal.
“Stanbury is now 13-0 Southern Area Champion, improving in every fight and big fights await us in 2026. North Devon has a boxer to be very proud of, let’s all continue to get behind our own and see where the journey takes us.”
Dylan Burston boxed in Essex in the NAGBC finals against Amin Khan from South Derbyshire. Burston dominated the first round from range, leading off with clean straight shows. In the second round, Khan used rough tactics to try and close the gap, a clash of heads leading to a cut above Burston’s eye, forcing the referee to stop the contest and go to the scorecards. Burston took the points win, becoming a two-time national champion.
