Great end to the year for Bideford Boxing Club

Three of Bideford’s junior boxers impressed on Port Talbot’s Bulldogs annual dinner show.

Marley Barnes put in a career-best performance, beating Jaiden Hughes from Portmead on a split decision. Barnes showed good footwork walking, Hughes on to punches and adding a big right uppercut to his repertoire.

A brilliant end to the year for Barnes, which saw him become Bristol Box Cup champion and move to seven wins from eight bouts.

Charlie Evans picked up his first loss against Cole Hanson from Merlin’s Bridge, a split points decision. Evans looked the better boxer throughout with some neat combinations but found himself getting outworked at times.

Gyspy Tee made her ring debut with an exhibition against Amanda Delve from Port Talbot. Delve came out strong but Tee weathered the storm. In the second half of the fight Tee’s boxing ability shone through, scoring long-range straight punches. Although no winner is decided in an exhibition contest, Tee showed plenty of potential for the future.
