Exmouth Town out for the count as Barnstaple side score seven in county cup
BOCA Seniors knocked seven bells out of Exmouth Town in the Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup on Saturday.
The North Devon Gazette Premier Division side beat the South West Peninsula League team 7-1 at the Tarka Tennis Centre to earn themselves a quarter-final away to Budleigh Salterton on January 22.
Boca have seen off their fair share of peninsula league teams during the last three seasons and Exmouth were well and truly strung up like Christmas turkeys thanks to two goals each for Matt Deakin, Scott Sharp and James Davey, while Richard Shannon grabbed a single from the penalty spot.
In the Devon Senior Firewatch Cup, Barnstaple Reserves set up a quarter-final tie with a thumping 5-4 win at Plymouth and West Combination League Division two side Chard United on Saturday.
Barnstaple went 4-1 up at half time and were cruising at 5-1 with half-hour to go before Chard gave them a late scare at West Park, Plymouth. Craig Sandle scored four and Louis Murrell scored one for Barum, who have been handed a home draw against East Cornwall League side Elburton Villa Reserves.
The Plymouth-based side is currently third in the premier division having won eight from 10 games this season.
In the north area semi-finals of the Devon Intermediate Cup, Equalizers cruised through to the area final with a 6-2 victory over High Bickington on Sunday.
Darren Floyde hit four, Nico Pfieffer grabbed a single and there was even time for 44-year-old substitute Adrian Lynch to round of a great move with a lob over the keeper – not bad for the veteran player who had started the day playing for Sunday side J&A cameras.
Equalizers will travel to Chulmleigh in the area final on January 22. Chulmleigh inflicted the first defeat of the season on Northside Athletic in a 4-1 win at Victoria Park.
The visitors took a two-goal lead into the break while the hosts had to re-shuffle after Neil Armstrong was sent off on 43 minutes for a second booking.
Despite the deficit, Northside pulled a goal back through an own-goal but Chumleigh made the extra man pay, and scored a further two goals late on.
