The Pollyfield Community Centre at East-the-Water in Bideford is to receive more than £40,000 to update its play area thanks to a grant from Torridge District Council.
Councillors at a community and resources committee meeting voted to award £40,509 to the centre after council officers and centre representatives had identified that the Pollyfield’s ‘infant’ play area needed urgent financial support to upgrade its equipment.
The play space has not seen any improvement for some time and is now in need of investment. Recently, the main multi-play unit had to be closed for a short time to fix a safety concern.

Councillor Lyndon Piper, the council’s lead member for leisure, said: “I am delighted we can use this funding to provide a much-needed, suitable safe place for children to play.
“Over the last couple of years there has been a great community resurgence around the Pollyfield site, especially with the growth and popularity of the football club. With the approval of a Playzone to be added to this site, it is important that other facilities, such as the play space are improved to keep up the momentum of revitalising this area.”
