Judges praise charity's commitment to workforce wellbeing and development at national awards ceremony

North Devon-based charity Northam Care Trust has been recognised on the national stage after winning The Employer Award at the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards on June 19.

The award recognises organisations that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to supporting their workforce. Northam Care Trust was praised by judges for its approach to staff wellbeing, training and professional development.

The trust, which supports people with learning disabilities and autism, said the award was a significant achievement for a small, community-based charity.

A spokesperson for Northam Care Trust said: “We are extremely proud to have achieved this award. To be recognised at a national level, especially as a smaller organisation, is a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire team.”

Judges highlighted the trust’s investment in staff wellbeing, including the introduction of a health cash plan to help employees with everyday healthcare costs and the addition of a second Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).

The enhanced EAP provides staff with access to a 24-hour online GP service, as well as confidential advice and resources designed to support mental health and wellbeing.

The organisation was also recognised for its commitment to training and professional development. Additional investment has been made in developing the senior leadership team to help ensure staff receive effective supervision and support.

According to the judges, the initiatives have helped create a positive working environment, enabling employees to deliver high-quality care and support.

“Our staff are at the heart of everything we do,” the spokesperson said.

“By supporting and investing in them, we can ensure the best possible outcomes for the people we support.”

The trust said the award reflects its people-focused culture and commitment to continuous improvement, while also highlighting the contribution smaller charities make to the care sector.

Northam Care Trust thanked its staff for their hard work and commitment, saying their efforts had made the national recognition possible.
