The next generation of sixth form entrepreneurs at Bideford College are preparing to take part in the popular Young Enterprise Company Programme.
The college, part of Athena Learning Trust, welcomed Cecile Fouillot-Jones to talk to Year 12 students about the initiative, which invites young people to set up and run their own business for a year.
The programme allows them to develop essential life and business skills such as planning, marketing, budgeting, problem-solving, teamwork and leadership.

There is also an opportunity to compete against other schools, pitching their businesses in regional and national competitions.
This year, the college programme is generously funded by Bideford Bridge Rotary Club and the college was delighted to also welcome back Vincent Bowen, who continues his support as a business mentor.
Last year’s competitors also shared their experiences and successes, inspiring the next generation of young entrepreneurs to innovate, collaborate and pursue their business ambitions.
The programme provides students with a real-world introduction to the world of work. Participants work in teams to set up and run their own student company under the guidance of a ‘business volunteer’, making key decisions from naming the company to managing finances and selling products through pop-up shops and the programme’s e-commerce platform, Trading Station.

Dr Claire Ankers, principal at Bideford College said: “We are delighted to see our Year 12 students so engaged and inspired by the Young Enterprise Programme.
“Initiatives like this give students a hands-on experience of the business world and the confidence to turn their ideas into reality.
“Thanks to the support of Bideford Bridge Rotary Club and our dedicated mentors, our students are gaining skills that will benefit them long beyond the classroom.”
