A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by a group of assailants in Barnstaple at the weekend.
Police were called to Queen Street at around 1.05am on Saturday following reports of a disturbance involving 12 to 14 young people.
When they arrived, one victim in his early 20s was found sat outside Barum Takeaway.
He described being set upon by a group, assaulted and kicked to the head while on the floor.
He was taken to hospital and found to have suffered fractured ribs and a punctured lung.
Police have urged anybody who saw the incident or who may have smartphone of CCTV footage to contact them by calling 101 or getting in touch via the Devon and Cornwall Police website, quoting reference 50250263267.
