Appeal after pensioner is assaulted in Barnstaple town centre

An altercation with a group of youths in Barnstaple resulted in a man in his 70s being assaulted, it is alleged

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was assaulted in Barnstaple town centre on Saturday night (September 6).

The victim, a man in his 70s, was walking along Queen Street outside the NHS centre at around 10.30pm when a verbal exchange with a teenage youth took place.

During the exchange the victim was alleged to have been assaulted and suffered an injury to his finger.

The suspect – who was part of a group of teenagers – is described as being a white male aged 16 to 18-years-old, around five feet nine inches tall, with dark short hair.

He was wearing a white t-shirt, a black waterproof top, black trousers and was holding a carton of juice.
