Families can enjoy a range of free half-term activities at Northam Burrows this October, with the rangers hosting nature-inspired events for children and adults alike.

A Halloween trail is running until 2 November, with visitors invited to pick up a free map from the Northam Burrows Visitor Centre, which is open daily from 10am to 5pm.

On Tuesday 28 October, the rangers will lead a Rockpool Ramble at Westward Ho! from 2pm to 4pm. Families can explore the rocky shore and learn about the creatures living in the tidal pools. The team can be found by the blue banner near the Westward Ho! slipway.

Later in the week, on Thursday 30 October, a Build Your Own Bird Box session will take place at the Northam Burrows Visitor Centre, also from 2pm to 4pm. Participants can learn about wildlife-friendly gardening, make paper plant pots, and take home seeds to grow over the winter months.

Both events are free and do not require booking.

Children must be accompanied by an adult, and visitors are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing.

Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Torridge District Council’s lead member for culture and community engagement, said: “Keeping the children entertained can be a challenge, especially at this time of year. These activities offer a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature and discover the variety of interesting wildlife living in our local area. And what’s more, they’re free.”
