A Bideford youth charity has received a £2,000 grant thanks to its local branch of Costa Coffee.

Wings South West has received the donation from the Costa Coffee Community Grants scheme after being nominated by Bideford store manager Jack Adamou.

The charity has been running for 25 years and works with a range of disadvantaged groups, including young people who cannot access mainstream education, to offer support and help them achieve their goals.

The group runs leisure activities, alternative curriculum activities with those struggling at school and other programmes including motor mechanics.

Jack Adamou at Costa’s Bideford High Street branch said: “Wings Bideford is about giving young people a future and hope. Through sports, creative projects, and practical programmes like motor mechanics, they offer opportunities for those who might otherwise be struggling.

“By nominating them for this grant, we hope to support events and a youth club that help young people build skills, confidence and a brighter future for themselves and the community.”

Wings is one of 44 charities and community groups to receive a grant this year from the Costa Coffee Community Grants scheme, which gives Costa staff the opportunity to nominate grassroots and community organisations in their area for a donation.

Stephanie Fry at Wings South West, said: “The grant from Costa Coffee will allow us to continue to work with some of the most vulnerable people in Bideford and the surrounding areas.

“As a charity, we are grateful for the support which enables us to fulfil our motto of ‘giving people a future and a hope’. Thank you, Costa Coffee, for your support!”
