Plans for a huge refurbishment of a South Molton pub including extending the bar area and beer garden have been submitted to North Devon Council.
The new owners of The Coaching Inn in Queen Street are hoping to enhance the viability of the pub by making it look more desirable inside and out.
A new sports bar concept will be introduced, featuring contemporary industrial aesthetics with exposed brickwork and concrete-effect wall finishes, say planning documents.

Internally, the scheme includes a full strip-out of existing finishes and the removal of a dividing wall to extend the bar area through to the dining space, creating an open-plan layout.
The documents supporting the application for planning permission also say that all 10 guest rooms and corridors will be fully redesigned on the first floor to offer a more modern and welcoming environment.
Externally, the beer garden will be extended and improved and the existing canopy will be replaced with a larger structure incorporating integrated fixed seating beneath and an external TV will be added to enhance the outdoor area.

North Devon Council will decide on the plans submitted by James Pooley at a later date.
On The Coaching Inn’s Facebook page the previous owners of 20 years said they were leaving the pub in very safe hands as the new owners were investing ‘a huge amount of time, money and faith’ into it bringing in ‘new jobs and trade for everyone’ and so deserved every bit of support from local residents.
