South Molton Community College is celebrating a solid set of GCSE results including pass rates well above the national averages in core English and maths subjects.
The school has hailed the ‘fantastic’ results as happy students picked up their grades today (Thursday), which saw the upward trend continue as it topped last year’s good results.
South Molton has reported pass rates above 73% in both English and maths, well above the national averages for both, which were just under 60%.

The school also saw a significant increase in students achieving the English Baccalaureate, with pass rates above 80% in French, German and Geography.
Plus there was an impressive 88% pass rate in Physical Education and a notable narrowing of the attainment gap for disadvantaged students.

High achievers for South Molton this year included Drake, who secured grade 9s in maths, English and physics, alongside grade 8s in all his other subjects.
Lily earned an exceptional set of results, including multiple grade 9s and Distinction* in her BTEC qualifications.
Callum has consistently achieved grade 7s and 8s across all subjects, demonstrating strong academic performance and steady commitment through the year.

Meanwhile, students Jess and Maria both achieved a number of high grades, including grade 9s.
Principal Rachel Harper said: “We are absolutely delighted with this year’s results.
“Our students have shown incredible resilience and determination and these outcomes reflect their efforts and the strength of our school community. We are especially proud of the progress made in closing the attainment gap and raising achievement across the board.”
