Bideford Summer Fair is taking place this Saturday (August 2) after bad weather forced organisers to cancel the original event back in June.

Visitors can enjoy a high-octane BMX stunt show, dazzling with jaw-dropping tricks and aerial feats, performed not once, but twice throughout the day with shows at 11.45am and 2.15pm.

The popular Bideford Fair Dog Show, welly whanging competition, stalls and family entertainment will all take place as usual at Victoria Park.

Unfortunately the fly-boarding display by James Prestwood scheduled for the June 7 date and the motorbike stunt spectacular by Jumping Jacks are unable to appear this year as they’re now booked at other events, but organisers say they have already been pencilled in for Bideford next year.

The festivities kick off on Saturday at 10.45am with the Mayor’s Procession, beginning at Bideford Town Hall and weaving its way through the town via Allhalland Street, Mill Street and Cooper Street, stopping for the town crier to read the fair proclamation.

The procession ends at Victoria Park, where the Mayor will officially open the fair at 11.10am.

Then it’s straight into the Welly Throwing Contest at 11.15am and registration for Bideford Fair Dog Show opens at 12.10pm, with the show starting at 12.30pm.

All dogs – from pampered pooches to scruffy scamps – are welcome to take part, with categories including The Waggiest Tail, Most Handsome, Best Rescue, Looks Most Like Their Owner, Prettiest Dog and Coolest Pup.

Entry is free and prizes will be awarded in all categories.

Entertainment continues throughout the afternoon with performances from the Sarah Ann Westcott Dance School at 1pm, the Carry On Choir at 1.30pm and a second BMX stunt show encore at 2.15pm.

Party games follow at 2.30pm, before the magical Fairy Show enchants young audiences at 3pm.

The day wraps up at 4pm, with organisers already turning their attention to 2026.

“We’ve had to tweak the entertainment due to the planned acts being unable to make the new date,” said Lucy Lowe or organiser South West Event Management Solutions CIC.

“But we’re delighted to bring a brilliant BMX stunt show and all the usual Bideford Fair fun, including the Dog Show, Welly Whanging and party games.”
