Organisers have taken the extremely difficult decision to postpone this year’s Bideford Sumer Fair and The Mayors Parade, which was set to take place tomorrow (Saturday, June 7).
The event at Victoria Park was due to see entertainment including a spectacular flyboarding display over the water, as well as stalls, music, dancing, games and the popular Bideford Fair Dog Show.
The historic Waverley paddle steamer was also due to dock at the quay in the afternoon. Currently the ship is still due to sail according to the Waverley website but this may change.
Organiser Lucy Lowe of South West Event Management Solutions CIC said last night (Thursday) with high winds forecast on Saturday of 40mph, it was simply not safe to run the event. The forecast showed rain all day, too.
The forecast has been updated today (Friday) and does seem less severe, but a decision had to be taken.
Lucy said: “This is an absolute shame as the event has taken so much planning and organisation. We are going to work out a new date for the event and will be contacting all of the traders, exhibitors and performers to see if they are able to join us for the new date.
“Please keep an eye out on the Bideford Summer Fair and Mayor’s Parade page on Facebook for the new date. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and we hope you are able to make the new date when it is announced.”
