Will your personal alarm still work after landlines switchover to digital?

North Devon Homes urges anyone with a personal alarm to check with their landline provider before the switchover deadline

Check with yoru landline provider to ensure your personal alarm will continue to work after the switchover.

Personal alarms provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones. Whether you’re concerned about a fall, managing medication, or simply want the reassurance that help is always available, at North Devon Homes, our alarm system helps to makes life safer and more independent.

For customers who have already have a personal alarm, also known as a pendant alarm and it is connected to your landline, you need to be aware of the change to the UK’s landline network.

By January 2027 the old landline network will be switched off and replaced with a new digital system. Therefore, you need to contact your phone provider now to make sure it will still work after the switchover.

What you need to do

It’s important to act now to avoid disruption later:

* Call your phone or landline provider and tell them you use a personal emergency alarm so they can make sure your service is safe and supported

* Don’t wait as some changes may take time, and providers may need to send you updated equipment

* Visit UK transition from analogue to digital landlines - GOV.UK for up-to-date information and advice.

This national change affects all landline services. Without action, your alarm may stop working.

What’s changing?

The current analogue phone lines are being phased out and replaced with digital connections. This means your phone service will be delivered through a broadband connection rather than a copper landline. If your personal emergency alarm is connected to the existing analogue system, it might stop functioning unless it’s adapted to the new digital service.

Why this matters

Emergency alarms are a critical safety tool, offering peace of mind and vital support in case of a fall, illness, or other emergency. Ensuring your alarm works after the switchover is essential to staying safe and supported at home.

This change is happening across the country and while it may feel technical, taking these simple steps now can make sure your emergency alarm continues to work when you need it most.

Here at North Devon Homes, we are working to make sure all residents stay informed, safe, and supported during this transition. We ask that you please check your alarm system as soon as possible and let us know if you need support.

Our personal alarms offer reassurance to you and your loved ones. The system includes an easy-to-use emergency unit and a remote trigger button, which can be worn as a watch or pendant. These water-resistant buttons work throughout your home and garden, with a 50-metre range.

If you ever need assistance, a quick press connects you to our trained staff, available 24/7. There are no upfront costs or installation fees, just a working phone line and electric socket. In case of a power cut, the system has a 40-hour backup battery.

For a low weekly fee, you’ll have not just emergency support, but confidence and peace of mind, knowing help is always just a button away.
