Exeter City were left to rue missed opportunities as they fell to a narrow defeat against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, a result that deepens the Grecians’ relegation concerns in League One.

In a high-stakes Good Friday encounter, Exeter battled hard but were undone by a single moment of quality, with Tom Bloxham scoring the decisive goal midway through the first half. The result leaves Exeter adrift in the bottom four, with the gap to safety now widened.

Despite the final scoreline, City showed resilience and created chances of their own. Jayden Wareham and Jack Aitchison both tested Blackpool goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who proved difficult to beat with a pair of crucial saves either side of half-time.

Blackpool started the brighter of the two sides, forcing Jack Bycroft into early action. The Exeter stopper did well to deny CJ Hamilton, while further efforts from Joel Randall and James Husband failed to find the target.

The breakthrough came just before the half-hour mark when Reuell Walters delivered a ball over the top, allowing Bloxham to lift a composed half-volley beyond Bycroft.

Exeter pushed for an equaliser in the second half and showed determination, but lacked the cutting edge needed to break through. At the other end, Blackpool threatened sporadically, with Hayden Coulson firing over.

Ultimately, the Grecians were left empty-handed, a result that keeps them in the relegation zone and increases the urgency ahead of their remaining fixtures.
