A Barnstaple cadet has been appointed as the Lord-Lieutenant Cadet (LLC) for Devon with a rare double nomination.

Earlier this month, Andrew Savory, 17, was presented with his Certificate of Appointment by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Devon, Mr David Fursdon, who is the personal Representative for His Majesty, King Charles III in the county.

For the next year, Andrew will act as the Lord-Lieutenant Cadet (LLC) for Devon and will attend and assist the Lord-Lieutenant, his Vice Lord-Lieutenant and Deputies at high profile civic and military occasions throughout the county as well as acting as an ambassador for the cadet units and organisation.

The Right Honourable Countess of Arran MBE, VLL is the Vice Lord-Lieutenant and is well known in North Devon.

Of the LL Cadets for Devon for this coming year, Andrew is the only one from North Devon.

In a rare occurrence, Andrew was nominated for both his achievements and commitment to the Army Cadet Force (Braunton Detachment) and also the West Buckland CCF (Air Training Corps). Therefore, Andrew will attend the functions in both capacities.

There are seven cadets for this coming year, chosen from the Army Cadet Force, Air Training Corps and Sea Cadets as well as the Combined Cadet Force (CCF).

The cadet from each arm of the Cadet Forces is selected and appointed based on their outreach and participation within their squadron, detachment or unit, and is seen as one of the highest achievements in the Cadet Forces.

The event was hosted by the Wessex Reserve Forces' and Cadets’ Association.

Andrew is a Cadet Staff Sergeant in the Army Cadets (Braunton Detachment) and last week also passed the challenging Master Cadet course in Frimley, Surrey.

He is standing by to perform his duties at the forthcoming Remembrance Services in Devon.

Andrew said: “I am really proud to have been chosen to receive this award. I am looking forward to attending the events.”
