RESIDENT wildlife television personality Johnny Kingdom will be opening Bishops Nympton Country Fayre on Sunday, August 17.The villager will officially start what is promised to be a fun-filled day out for all the family being held in aid of a new village hall, from 2pm.Attractions will include a sheep steeplechase, pony rides; car boot sale; bouncy castles; family dog show; tug of war; welly throwing; local produce stalls; vintage rally exhibits; rare breeds and licensed bar.Co-organiser Alistair Cumings said that planning for the new village hall was well under way and the fayre would be held on the actual hall site."We hope the event will raise a reasonable amount of money to aid in the construction of the hall," he said."If successful, we hope the country fayre will become an annual event and will grow with the community, and support local funding in any which way required. "Recently the parish has been dealt a bitter blow with the news of the closure of our post office and this will almost inevitably lead to the demise of our village shop."This is very sad for such a close-knit community and the business owners themselves. "We hope that the country fayre will bring a fresh outlook on village life and will attract everybody far and wide to give people a taste of country life in Bishops Nympton and show what a small community has to offer despite outside pressures."To register a plot for car booting, telephone (01769) 551838 before August 8.
