FORMER school teacher Anne Griffiths is organising a Relay for Life on behalf of Cancer Research UK at the North Devon Athletic Track, Braunton, this summer.She is looking for teams of between eight and 15 people to take it in turns to lap the track for up to 24 hours, starting at 2pm on Saturday, June 14 and finishing at around noon the following day.Teams must have at least one member on the track throughout the event.Anne is organising a promotion in Green Lanes, Barnstaple, on Saturday, February 16 to introduce this new event to North Devon."It will start with a lap of honour by survivors of cancer," said Anne. "Relay for Life is a celebration as well as an informal day of remembrance."At twilight, there will be a Candle of Hope ceremony, with special candles dedicated to loved ones being placed around the track."The event will be open to teams of men and women and we are hoping each team will raise at least £1,000 in sponsorship before the event."Those taking part will be able to camp at the athletic track where entertainment and refreshments will be laid on."Anyone who would like to help at the event, or organise a team, should contact Anne on (01271) 815327 or email her at griffiths880@bt internet.com
