An England and Exeter Chiefs star is set to become a barista for the day on Thursday, February 6, swapping his rugby boots for a barista apron.

Rugby player Ethan Roots will be visiting Nellie’s Coffee Bar in Gammon Walk, Barnstaple, from 6pm, where he will be supporting the work of Nellie’s, which is run by Barnstaple-based Blue Elephant Future Steps CiC.

The coffee shop itself is on a mission to make a positive change for the future of young people in North Devon. The not-for-profit company is committed to supporting individuals who are moving on from living in care, with all profits donated to the company.

Lucy Squire, Director of Care at Blue Elephant, shared her excitement about Ethan’s visit. She said, “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Ethan to Nellie’s Coffee Bar. His support means so much to us, and we can’t wait to see him in action showcasing his multi-talented skills, as he’s not only an international rugby player but also a trained barista!”

Earlier in the day, Ethan will also take part in the opening of the newest residential children’s home in Barnstaple for their sister company, Blue Elephant Childcare. The new three-bedroom home marks the company’s ninth home in North Devon, reaffirming their dedication to providing safe, supportive environments for children in care.

At the opening, Ethan will meet the team and residents and celebrate this important milestone for Blue Elephant.

The coffee shop has said the community is invited to join Ethan at Nellie’s Coffee Bar at 6pm on Thursday, February 6, where they can enjoy a coffee and sample some of the delicious food from Nellie’s menu, all while supporting a great cause.

Tickets for ‘An Evening with Ethan’ and the chance to join his rugby training session will be available at Nellie’s from February 6.
