A grade II listed shop in Barnstaple could become a takeaway and restaurant.

The detached three storey building at 104 High Street is in an area of commercial and private homes.

The applicant, Ercan Ebcin, wants North Devon Council to allow a change of use of the shop so they can create a “generous sized” restaurant and takeaway, and construct a first floor extension for toilets and an extraction system.

Plans included adding better insulation and more efficient heating.

An “unsafe” staircase will be replaced.

The agent for the applicant, ANVA Architectural, Engineering and Licensing, said the alterations would “bring new life into the building” and provide wider uses which would be “a welcome improvement” to the listed site.

The alterations are considered to be minimal, appropriate,  and in keeping with surrounding similar developments, according to ANVA.
