Bideford Asda worker wins big with £160,000 Maserati

His winning entry only cost him £20

Bideford Asda worker wins big with £160,000 Maserati

Jasper with his brand new 199mph Maserati Omaze prize

A 21-year-old from Bideford has traded his ‘battered’ £6,000 Seat Mii for a new Maserati GranTurismo, valued at £160,000, after winning the luxury sports car in an Omaze Million Pound House Draw.

Jasper Hemsworth’s winning entry, costing just £20, was part of a campaign that raised £4 million for London’s Air Ambulance Charity, contributing to their goal of £15 million for two new helicopters.

The draw's “Early Bird Prize” was a Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo, capable of reaching a top speed of 199 miles per hour, powered by a twin-turbo 3.0 V6 engine that produces an impressive 550PS.

Upon hearing the news of his win, Jasper said: “When Omaze called to tell me I’d won the car, I was surprised and dubious in equal measure, but once it started to sink in, I knew I was going to have to keep it, it’s just so beautiful and well made, a real delight to own.

“I didn’t actually have time to celebrate as I had a shift at Asda starting in an hour.”

Although the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, Jasper plans to keep his trusty Seat Mii for his daily commute to Asda, joking that the Maserati might look “a little out of place in the Asda car park.”

The Maserati features distinctive elements, including the iconic Trident grille, a Trofeo-specific body kit, and a £2,400 carbon fibre rear spoiler.

It comes fully equipped with modern amenities, including a 14-speaker Sonus faber sound system, Apple CarPlay, and advanced safety systems.

Jasper, who currently works at Asda and volunteers as a teaching assistant, lives at home with his parents, Maggie and Robert, and their collection of rescue animals.

While he dreams of becoming a teacher, he also envisions road trips across Europe with his family in his new car.

“My Dad is a big petrol head and can’t wait to have a go in it. I want to keep it for special occasions and road trips abroad across Europe with my family. We will do a proper grand tour in it as that's what it's made for after all,” he said.

James Oakes, Chief International Officer at Omaze, said: “Everyone at Omaze is over the moon for Jasper. He’s won his dream car and is looking forward to taking the road trip of a lifetime with his family. Not only did he win our Early Bird Prize, he also contributed to the incredible £4,000,000 raised for London’s Air Ambulance Charity. We’re tremendously proud that the Omaze community has already raised over £56 million for good causes across the UK.”

As for Jasper's future aspirations, he hopes to one day win an Omaze house to match his new luxury ride.

The latest draw offers the chance to win a stunning Yorkshire country house worth over £2.5 million, alongside cash prizes.
