Students at Kingsley School in Bideford celebrated their A Level and BTEC results on Thursday, August 15 but for one teenager the day was especially poignant.
Grace Williams, who is head of school, has been able to complete her A Levels over three years thanks to support from the school after she became very unwell during Year 11.
The school revealed on Thursday it had enjoyed strong results, reflecting the hard work of students despite the challenges faced by the outgoing sixth form due to the disruption from Covid.
It said students had secured places at prestigious universities across the country, including Exeter and Strathclyde for engineering, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Nottingham and Loughborough for business management and marketing, plus various institutions for a range of degree courses including pharmaceutical, English, occupational therapy, liberal arts and psychology.
For Grace, it was all smiles on Thursday as she picked up her first two A Level results in maths and biology and this year thanks to the arrangements made by the school she will study for her psychology A Level.
Grace said: “It has allowed me to stay in some form of education and to be able to continue to come to school.
“I met up with the headmaster Mr Pavis and the accommodation from the school has been just brilliant and allowing me to work as much as I could but not forcing me into things I was not quite ready for.”
Congratulating the students, headmaster Rob Pavis said: “Their resilience and determination in overcoming the challenges of recent years are truly commendable.
“We are excited to see them embark on their chosen paths and I hope more than anything our students who are moving on today enjoy their next chapter.
“Kingsley School is immensely proud of this year's cohort and looks forward to following their future accomplishments.”
