West Buckland School’s Sixth Form students are celebrating today after achieving outstanding A-level and BTEC results.

With over 40 per cent of exams graded at A* or A and an impressive near-100 per cent pass rate, the majority of students have secured their first-choice university placements.

Head of West Buckland School, Phillip Stapleton, expressed his delight at the students' success. "I am thrilled for all the students who have performed so well today. These young people have grown into remarkable individuals, embodying the character values central to our school ethos. As they move on to higher education and the workforce, they are prepared to innovate and tackle challenges with resilience and curiosity."

Matt Brimson, Deputy Head Academic and Head of Sixth Form added: “It has been a privilege to know the students in this cohort and be part of their journey. We wish them all the very best and their legacy in academic ambition, sporting success, richness of the creative arts, driving environmental change, and desire to serve each other is fondly remembered and ensures that they are fully prepared for whatever the future holds.”

Among the standout achievers is Zac Johnson, who secured four A* grades in maths, further maths, physics, and chemistry.

Zac will be attending St John’s College, Cambridge, to study Natural Sciences.

Other notable successes include Jamie Magee, who earned two A*s and an A, securing a place to study Biological Sciences at Sheffield.

The sixth form also said: “In 2022 we welcomed two Ukrainian students, displaced by war, into the school. Despite their challenging circumstances, away from their family, they have both thrived. Dasha Rizo, one achieved two grades at A* and one at A and will study International Business Management at the University of Bristol, while Vika Matviiuk gained four A grades, including the Extended Project, and a C; she will go on to study Mathematics. Both girls embodied the resilience that is the hallmark of a West Buckland education.”

West Buckland's international students also shone, with many achieving top grades and securing places at prestigious universities.

West Buckland School's next whole school Open Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, at 9.30am, with a Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday, October 16 at 5.30pm. Further details can be found at www.westbuckland.com
