Torridge District Council has announced changes to the waste and recycling collection schedule for the upcoming August bank holiday.

Due to the holiday on Monday, August 26, there will be no collections on that day.

Instead, all waste and recycling collections will take place one day later than usual for the entire week, running from Tuesday, August 27, through Saturday, August 31.

Regular collection services will resume on Monday, September 2.

The council encourages residents to check the updated collection times for their addresses, which can be found on the Torridge District Council website.

Torridge District Councillor Chris Leather, Lead Member for Operational Services, said:

“We hope everyone has a fantastic bank holiday weekend and our fingers are crossed for some sunny weather to make it even better! As usual, people’s collection days will be a day later than usual following the holidays, and I would like to thank our crews who will be working extra shifts to catch up on the week's collections. If you’re planning a party or social get together, please encourage everyone to recycle their empty bottles, cans and any leftover food so that we can continue with the excellent recycling rates you’ve already helped us achieve in recent years. As a reminder our top recycling tips are listed below.”

The council also offered a few key recycling tips to help residents maximise their recycling efforts:

  • Plastics and cans: Wash and squash before placing them in the green kerbside box to save space.
  • Glass: Recycle all glass bottles and jars in the black kerbside box.
  • Cardboard: Ensure cardboard fits into the brown bag; additional bags can be ordered online.
  • Food waste: Use plastic bags to line kerbside food caddies for easier handling.
