The Holsworthy British Heart Foundation store will close its doors for good on November 20 as the charity shuts stores around the country

The Holsworthy British Heart Foundation shop is closing after many years to leave the charity just one store left in the whole of North Devon and Torridge.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has thanked the community for their support over the years as preparations begin for the closure of the shop in The Square on Friday, November 20.

The closure of the Holsworthy shop was recently announced as part of a list of 87 stores closing around the UK, with a further 63 under review.

It means Barnstaple will be the last remaining BHF charity shop in the Torridge and North Devon area.

The charity has said the closures are part of efforts to ensure its retail network remains commercially sustainable. It has seen falling retail profits in recent years and the wider charity retail industry has blamed the rise of resale apps such as Vinted for the a reduction in quality donations and profits.

Philip Layton, area manager at British Heart Foundation, said: “We would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone in Holsworthy who has supported our store over the years and helped us raise vital funds for cardiovascular research.

“Our shop has been so much more than a place to shop. It has been a valued part of the local community, providing a place for people to volunteer, generously donate and for our lovely loyal customers to shop. They’ve all helped make a real difference.

“We are enormously grateful for the support we have received and while our shop will close soon, we hope everyone will continue supporting the British Heart Foundation by shopping, donating or volunteering in our other shops.”

As the shop enters its final weeks, the team would love to see familiar faces and welcome new customers through the door.

Philip added: “With lots of great finds still available, you can still pick up a bargain and help us fund research.”

The shop will close on November 20. Donations can still be made through other BHF shops, donation points, home collection service and online post to donate options. Supporters can also use the shop finder tool on the charity’s website to find their next nearest BHF shop, although in this area only Barnstaple, Okehampton and Launceston remain.
