An Okehampton-based fuel supplier serving farms, homes and businesses across Devon and the South West has welcomed the Government’s decision to freeze fuel duty, calling it “welcome relief” for rural drivers, hauliers and local firms.

Moorland Fuels says that continuing the freeze, announced in this year’s Budget, will make a real difference to those who rely on regular travel, including farmers, agricultural contractors and companies running vehicle fleets.

In a statement, Moorland Fuels Director Abby Turner said the decision would help ease the burden of fuel costs for those travelling long distances, whether commuting, shopping, or transporting goods.

“Today’s extensions of the 5p tax freeze on fuel duty will come as welcome news to the many hauliers, agricultural contractors, farmers … and companies running fleets of vehicles that we deliver to,” Turner said.

She added that for rural families, especially those who travel regularly, the freeze would “keep more money in the pockets of drivers.”

The freeze maintains the cut first introduced in 2022, which has helped limit price rises at the pump; and the Government has confirmed that the freeze will remain in place until September 2026, after which a phased increase is planned.

From that point, fuel duty will rise by 1 pence in September 2026, then 2 pence in December 2026, a further 2 pence in March 2027, and after that, duty will be uprated annually with inflation.

For companies such as Moorland Fuels, which supply kerosene, diesel, heating oil and industrial fuels to homes, farms and businesses throughout Devon and Cornwall, the freeze offers a welcome reprieve.

The firm has delivered fuel across the region for over 20 years and prides itself on reliability and transparency.

Turner said the phased approach to future duty increases gives businesses time to plan ahead during a challenging economic period.

Moorland Fuels has built a reputation as a trusted local supplier, and, based in Okehampton, the business offers services to rural customers who often rely heavily on vehicles and fuel for daily life, agriculture or commercial operations.

Over the years the company has expanded its services, now offering heating oil, diesel, lubricants and even renewable diesel (HVO) as a greener alternative.

For many households and businesses in Devon’s towns, villages and out-lying areas, the freeze could offer real financial relief, at least for now.
